Council Member Leslie Daigle was elected to the Newport Beach City Council in 2006. She was appointed to the Council in 2004.

Council Member Daigle is a leader in the restoration of Newport Bay, a long-held goal of the City and region. Leslie lobbied to help secure the federal funds necessary to complete the Upper Newport Bay Eco-system restoration project, a 752 acre ecological reserve.

She’s championed the cause of dredging Newport Harbor, the Lower Bay, as navigable waterways and improved water quality enables economic and recreation uses to thrive. This economic engine must be restored to its optimum condition.

For the first time, since the Harbor was constructed in the 1930’s, federal funding was provided to begin the long-anticipated dredging of Newport Harbor.

During the past fifteen years, Council Member Daigle’s worked in the wireless communications industry in a government relations capacity.

Her knowledge of wireless communications assisted the City in its efforts to plan and deploy a Master Traffic Signal Synchronization System. Improving traffic flow is a priority for Newport Beach residents.

She led the way for the City to Video Stream hearings and other public information to increase transparency and digital democracy.

Whether it is a small scale issue such as delivering on a cross walk guard in response to a request by members of the PTA or a large scale issue such as the dredging of Newport Harbor, Council Member Daigle applies her native capacity and her twenty years of experience in government as a commissioner, an elected official, a staff member, and as a professional advocate for applicants seeking a permit, to get results for citizens.

During 2007, Council Member Daigle chaired the Finance Committee which completed a Citizen Satisfaction Survey, the first of a host of initiatives to deliver city services in a cost efficient manner while maintaining the same level of quality.

Council Member Daigle continues to serve on the Finance Committee which is now in the midst of benchmarking City services.

Council Member Daigle worked with the Newport Mesa Unified School District and Newport Beach Police Department to provide a forum entitled Keep Your Teen Safe. Topics include Internet security, teenage driver, teenage drug use, and suicide/depression.

Council Member Daigle was a member of the Corona Del Mar Aquatics Foundation Steering Committee, which raised more than one million dollars to fund improvements at the Marion Bergeson Aquatics Center. Aquatics are an important part of the heritage of Newport Beach.

She spearheaded the first annual Orange County Conference for Women (www.ocwomen.org). Sponsors include Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. Attendees learned more about women’s health and other issues.

Council Member Daigle, the third of five children of Dr. Albert and Mrs. Albert Daigle, was raised on Cape Cod, MA. She is a graduate of the University of Denver and the Denmark International Study program at the University of Copenhagen.

Prior to serving on the Council, Council Member Daigle served on the Planning Commission. She is a member of the Urban Land Institute and Deputy Chair - Newport Beach for the Republican Party of Orange County.
